ok I have quite a few older pc (like most of AT fine members 😉 )
so im putting together a file server from all of my older pc

so far I decided on reusing my old ga 6bxd board
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Pro...73&ProductName=GA-6BXD
P3-850 or p3-700
768mb ram (ecc)
a bunch of old hd's (200-320 gb)
gf2 gts or gf4 mx 440
xp pro

my q is how much mhz is really needed for a media file server?(what is the min specs?)
im thinking about setting the mobo to 66 fsb and lower the vcore on the cpu
(which would equal to 561 mhz or 462 mhz)

im trying to make it silent/quiet/low power consumption networked to 7 pc's

thanks for the input

edit sorry about that I was rushing to post this (had to pick up the wife) so I saw alot of errors

It wold be OK for a simple File Server.

But I am not sure that even such an issue.

P-III 700 probaly takes 40Watt at idle.
