so who on here reuses charcoal? when I'm done grilling I shut the vents to kill the fire and when I want to start again, I clean the ashes add fresh to the old stuff. I'm a cheap bastard.

Haha! I do that, too. :D

Once the fire's out I move the grill into my garage/basement where I have a dehumidifier to keep the used charcoal from absorbing moisture.

I do that. There is usually enough to fill 1/3 to 1/4 of a chimney starter for the next fire.

I don't even do that. I just keep it on my back deck.

I do the same. When it comes time to grill again, I empty the used charcoal into my chimney starter and shake the hell out of it to loosen the ash. Then add fresh charcoal and, voila, money saved.

I do it. No reason not too.
Done grilling. Shut the vents. Next time I grill scoop up briquettes remaining. Toss in chimney. Shake. Pile new briquettes on. Light.

I do it too. I can certainly afford new briquettes but I don't see why you wouldn't re-use them when its so easy.

i usually just let it burn out, unless there are big chunks.
If i close the vents and try to re-use, the chunks are usually too small and end up slipping through the lower grate as soon as i move them around (to relight)

I only use lump though, briquettes might be easier to use.

Interesting site, thanks. About 3 months ago I converted an old Vermont Castings gas grill to charcoal, used a huge piece of pipe and it's permanently cemented to the ground, I had been using gas for so long I forgot how awesome charcoal was!, now I use it 8/10 times I cook outside, I've still got a Weber propane grill on the porch and it comes in handy for rainy days or a quick late night dog but really I'm back to being a charcoal guy. Haven't tried any lump brands yet but that's next. The Vermont castings grill has a VERY thick aluminum cast so it should last for awhile..
