Returns with Newegg

I imagine this goes in Off-topic, if not, whatever.

I bought a video card from Newegg (9600XT) a few days ago, and I just got it in the mail today. I did some thinking while it was being shipped here, and I think it was a bad decision to buy it. There's new card coming out soon, and I don't need the card immediatley, so I figure in a month or so I can get a better card for the same or less price ($150).

Anyway, I haven't opened the thing, and I want to return it back to Newegg, but I don't want to pay the 15% restocking fee. Anyone have any experience with Newegg as far as returns go? Is there a way for me to get out of being charged the 15%?

If your just returning because of buyers remorse you may be able to sweet talk them, but suppose theres only one way to find out

 

Call them, i just returned a bad video card this past week and they waved the fee. Be honest with them and see what they say.

Howzabout THIS scenario? Can I return a video card and get a different one with them without a restocking fee? The card is en route to me as we speak, however after reading reviews for the ATI 9600SE, it seems that the card doesn't perform as well as the regular 9600 or even a 9800SE. Anybody wanna share their experience with newegg return or these two video cards? Thanks.

If you want to return the card for any reason other than it being the wrong thing, then I wouldn't expect to get out of the restocking fee. If they let people return things without the restocking fee for any dumb excuse, then there isn't much point in having the restocking fee, eh?

Your ONLY chance lies with calling a CSR and trying to talk them into it.

I don't think they'll charge you the restocking fee if you haven't opened it. Restocking fee is basically to repackage it up back for retail sale. If it's already packaged for retail sale, I can't see them charging you for it.

From the past experiences of many board members, you'll probably have a good chance of returning it without the fee, if you pick up another item in that same conversation.

I don't know... Been outta the hardware scene so long that I don't know what's what now. This is my first time upgrading in about 4 years.

So how firm should you be to save yourself a restocking fee? CSR just refused me, even if the item will be unopened or refused at the door when delivered. I said was gonna return it and get another card from them also, but alas, I got denied.

I just emailed CSR about a restocking fee on an RMA that I need, but my card is bad and I already have another replacement. If they refuse my request I'm blaming you!:|

Let me put it this way...don't EXPECT to get out of it. Newegg made it clear that they would have a restocking fee on their page, and they are under no obligation whatsoever to waive it.

On the other hand, there's still a good chance they might do it. Newegg seems pretty good about this. I got them to take return of a $230 printer that was clearly marked "no return for refund, exchange for exact same item only" and they waived the restocking fee without my even asked. This was for a company purchase, and we'd bought a lot of stuff from them recently. I have a feeling, that if you have a large purchasing history with them, they are more receptive to bending the rules for you.

I "got out" of it, but I didn't request it. I had ordered a set of Z680s, returned them to Logitech and STILL had problems with the replacements. Not only was this a late return (past 30 days) but they didn't charge me a restocking fee (the $50 shipping charge back to them was bad enough). I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I've placed a dozen orders or so with them over the past 3-4 years.

What if you asked them to put the price of the card and the restocking fee towards the purchase of the new card you are after.

that way neither of you are losing anything.

? When and Why are restocking fees applied? How much is deducted when a return is subject to a restocking fee? There is a restocking fee of 15% on all returns for refund, unless waived by our Customer Support Agent. Newegg is not responsible for manufacturer defects. We are not manufacturers. We are willing to replace a defective item. If a refund is requested instead of a replacement we will charge a 15% restocking fee. Why? Claiming "defective" is the easy way out of a restocking fee just because you don't want the item. If it's defective we will replace it (rma type repair). For CPU and Memory refunds, any restocking fee we use will be a reflection on current market value for the same cpu item. Newegg.com will not allow returns and then re-orders in attempts to make a profit on CPU and Memory price fluctuations.
