Returning something to a different store

I have 2GB of OCZ Platinum Rev2 ram, which I ordered an received about 2 months ago.

Because it is over the 30 day limit, the store I originally purchased it from will no longer accept a return.

Would it be wrong of me to try and return it somewhere else that has a better return policy? Would any store accept an item which I no longer have the receipt for?
It is still unopened, in its original packaging.

I thought every place pretty much required a receipt in order to return. I've never been able to return anything without a receipt.

It would be wrong, and most stores that I know of wouldn't even think of an item exchange/refund/return without a receipt.

It would be unethical, and if you were to return it elsewhere with no receipt, chances are the best you could hope for is store credit. Why not try to sell it in FS/T here instead?

Question for you guys:

You go to Wal*Mart and pick up a leaf blower for $100, you go home, have been using it, etc. and want to keep it. A day later, you're at a hardware store and see it for $20 less so you pick it up. You have 2 choices - either go home, swap them, and then drive back, or you can simply take the one you just got and take it straight to Wal*Mart. In the end, there's no difference right? Any reason to disagree?

I think the questionable part is if someone does this with a bad intention and for more than 1 item that they never bought anywhere.

You have to ask?!

Try this; take that merch into the store you're considering trying this on. Ask them the very same thing you posted here.

Report back.

Totally different scenario. In your case, you actually purchased the item at the store you are returning it to. Wal-Mart is giving you back your cash (that you originally spent there) and you are giving them an item identical to the one you actually purchased there, so their net change (in both inventory and cash on hand) is 0. In the OPs case, he is wanting to return an item to a store he did not purchase it -or an identical, higher priced version of it - from, resulting in a net increase in inventory and decrease in cash on hand.
