MSi P35 Platinum doesn't work with two 1066Mhz RAMs (Crucial Ballstix). After battling with it for 2 months, I packed it up and put it in the box.

I am getting a hit with 10% restocking fee but at least they are taking it back.

Do you think It'll be alright with Asus P5K Deluxe?

Ballistix DDR2-1066 kit BL12864AA1005 is on the approved list for P5K Deluxe. Go to Asus website, locate the board, then select QVL Download on left hand side of webpage for the list.

And it looks like Ballistix DDR2-1066 kit BL12864AA1065 is on MSI P35 Platinum approved list.

These are both 2 x 1gb kits - identical except for last 2 digits of part #, so it should have worked in the MSI. Did you run memtest on each stick in each slot thoroughly to make sure it's not a bad stick or bad RAM slot? Use at least 2.0 - 2.1 vDIMM ? Manually set Bios timings to 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15 2T instead of auto?

Both worked individually and tried different slots. Also tried different timings.
With two rams and latest BIOS, it restarted itself every 5 seconds.

We can try and help sort you here if you want. Please list all your system components with as much detail as possible, tell us if you were overclocking, and what the settings were.

Did you memtest your RAM?

Whatever mobo you go with, make sure you memtest your RAM shortly after setup and operating system install. One of your sticks might be bad -- happens around 8% of the time which is frequent enough to be concerned.

Sorry you had probs with the MSI. AT reviewed that board back in June I think. IIRC, they noted numerous probs when trying to manually set RAM timings. They eventually had to go with Auto-everything and it worked -- so it's not really a tweak friendly mobo.

Also, I never liked the fact that they put the colored RAM slots together as opposed to alternating them. So with MSI, you need to know to put your 2 RAM sticks in one green + one orange slot, as opposed to 2 in the same color like every other board does.

Bah... MSI who???
