hmmm... i just bought my 360 yesterday, and turned down the offer because i didn't feel like paying an extra $60 at the time. i wonder if there is any way i can go back and buy this after the fact...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am sure you can. Just bring the reciept in and tell them you forgot to buy the PRODUCT REPLACEMENT PLAN. If they give you crap just tell them you found out about it online and the associate never asked you if you wanted to purchase one or just return/rebuy the 360 and add the plan

Usually you can purchase an extended warranty within 14 or 30 days from date of purchase.

Yea, basically they just stapled the Exchange reciept into my Replacement Plan pamphit along with the previous Exchange reciept and original purchase reciept.

I just did some reading on the policy and its looks like some of you guys were correct on it expiring if the product is replaced after the expiration of the manufacturers warrenty.

However, because MS extended thier warrenties till 3 years, Im guessing the manufacturers warrenty will out live the 2 yr replacement plan letting me return my 360 as many times as it breaks until theend of the plan.

The 3 year warranty ONLY applies to RRoD failures. It's only 1 year for any other type of failure. So I guess it would depend on how Best Buy interprets that situation.

Actually it depends on the product, the CSR, & whether it's still under manufacturer's warranty or not.

Some things (especially smaller items) you can do many times under the same warranty.
Being nice with the CSR can help a ton as well, as they often can easily keep the same warranty w/o making you paying for the new one (even if they're supposed to).
And in general, if the product is still under the manufacturer's warranty, they won't make you pay for a warranty again.

IOW, there's a lot of a factors that get involved.

Oh hey, thanks for quoting a post I already read. Did you read my post? If the bolded part in your post is correct, then it depends on whether Best Buy considers the Xbox 360 warranty to be 1 year or 3 years. It is a 1 year warranty with a 3 year warranty on one specific type of failure. That is what I said in my post, and the post you quoted does not answer the question of whether the OP has 1 year or 3 years from the date of purchase to exchange his 360 and keep the service plan.

But thanks though

From a GS employee: This is correct. And i'd personally never buy a console without a PRP. PSP's depends on the item, how long you intend to keep it, etc.

I have the 2 year product replacement plan at Best Buy for my 360. I need to take it back since it busted. I paid $400 a year ago before the price drop. The new price for 360 is $350. Now will they just exchange it or actually give me the $50 back or store credit?

Im guessing no but its worth asking

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just returned and

I walked up to the return guy, he asked for my reciept and then says "All right, this is how it works. You have $400 + Tax to spend towards a new Xbox Premium, Xbox Elite, or Xbox 360 Halo addition."

I go back grab myself a Xbox 360 Premium, an AR HDMI cable and bring it back. He rings it all up then gives me a giftcard for $21.49 for the remaining balence

Basically because the 360 was $350 now I got that extra $50+ tax to spend

Also asked if this one broke could i bring it back. He said as many times as I wanted until the PRoduct replacement plan expired

I don't get your post at all. When you buy a warranty on an item and use it, you give them the damaged equipment and they give you a gift card for the price you originally paid for it. The warranty has now been used and Best Buy has no more obligation to do anything for you. You can use that gift card for whatever you want at Best Buy, it doesn't have to be "towards a new Xbox Premium, Xbox Elite, or Xbox 360 Halo addition" since it's just a gift card. If you do choose to get a new Xbox, it has no warranty from Best Buy unless you buy another warranty for it.

The key words here are "product replacement." That what you paid for, that's all you are going to get.

50 dollar credit? That is just silly - like best buy is going to be dumb enough to buy it back for what you paid for it then sell you a new one at the current price. LOL

They actually do this pretty regularly. I did it with both my launch Xbox and Gamecube, twice with the Cube since it kept dying on me.
