Returning 360 to Best Buy? (UPDATE!!!!!)

I have the 2 year product replacement plan at Best Buy for my 360. I need to take it back since it busted. I paid $400 a year ago before the price drop. The new price for 360 is $350. Now will they just exchange it or actually give me the $50 back or store credit?

Im guessing no but its worth asking

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just returned and

I walked up to the return guy, he asked for my reciept and then says "All right, this is how it works. You have $400 + Tax to spend towards a new Xbox Premium, Xbox Elite, or Xbox 360 Halo addition."

I go back grab myself a Xbox 360 Premium, an AR HDMI cable and bring it back. He rings it all up then gives me a giftcard for $21.49 for the remaining balence

Basically because the 360 was $350 now I got that extra $50+ tax to spend

Also asked if this one broke could i bring it back. He said as many times as I wanted until the PRoduct replacement plan expired

If they even offer to help you is the real question but I'll leave that sleeping dragon alone.

They will not offer you a credit merely an exchange if you manage to somehow get to that point.

Good luck going in and godpseed.

I actually got a credit on a LCD screen I got for my GC back a while ago. Same price as I had paid for it a year prior

no, they only give you the original amount back if they cannot issue you an equivalent replacement or the item that has replaced it due to upgrades.

Also, (I know this isnt the case) say you bought a 5GB Xbox360 in the beginning for 400$. Say they dont make 5GB Xbox360 anymore, but their lowest end one with hdd is 60GB for 350$, you get the 60GB one as a replacement.

This happened with my Klipsch Promedia 5.1. Mine had a defect and they replaced it with an Ultra5.1 no questions asked.

Seems like you have had bad experiences. I don't see why they wouldnt exchange it

The key words here are "product replacement." That what you paid for, that's all you are going to get.

50 dollar credit? That is just silly - like best buy is going to be dumb enough to buy it back for what you paid for it then sell you a new one at the current price. LOL

Yeah, i've had great luck with service plans, especially on small stuff.

Usually either end up with a much better product, or credit toward [what will be a much better product].

Not saying they're always awesome, but the amount of bashing on warranties tends to show ignorance by those doing it imo.

^^^^^^

I agree. I've never had a problem returning my 360 to BB. In fact, I've actually made out quite well. First time I returned it, I didn't include the Headset or ethernet cable and they didn't care and they didnt even take them out of the replacement. This time, I forgot to include the componant cables, and the guy didn't care

And its funny cause I didn't even ask, he just looked at reciept told me how its done, asked what was wrong with the system...the rest is history

Sounds like another one of those idiots that spews hatred for best buy for no reason.

The bandwagon is over there....go back to it.

We <3 you all at BB. I had a great day at work today there. I repaired...6 computers...set up 2 networks...and did a ram upgrade. =)

...We don't care if you bring crap back. We made our profit off you then, now it costs less, you bought PSP, you win, we win, we all win! =D

I doubt that's true. As soon as you got a replacement, your old replacement plan should be void. You should have been asked if you wanted to purchase another replacement plan on your new Xbox. I doubt they changed their policy, so you probably had a misinformed associate.

Nope. This is the 2nd time I've brought back my xbox on the same policy. Few of my friends have done the same a few times as well. Maybe you just have had dick associates

I used to work at Futureshop (owned by Best Buy) and the policy was what I stated above. They either have a different policy in Canada or they recently changed the policy.

In any case, good to hear things went smoothly for you.

That policy may depend upon the type of item. I bought a service plan for a CRT TV that was their demo model. Turns out it had a bad tube and eventually returned it. I originally tried to get Best Buy to repair the TV under the service plan. That did not work out and it dragged out for two months or so. They told me that by junking the TV, I would get full credit (minus tax) for what I paid on it and that it would fulfill the service plan. Fortunately, I was able to get it treated as a return because I had attempted to get it repaired within the 30 day return. It never got repaired because the repair place never would schedule to come out and work on the TV.

The new CRT that I got had the service plan transferred to it. And of course that had a bad tube (different brand too). So I started going through the repair process on this (but after the 30 day return period) and they wanted to go with the same asshole repair shop and of course they never would schedule to come out and get the TV. So Samsung ended up junking the TV by default and once again I got full credit on what I paid for the TV (had to work with both Samsung and Best Buy on this). I ended up getting an LCD TV and haven't had any problems and the old CRT service plan was transferred to my current TV (and the LCD service plans are cheaper so I got money back on that).

So for TV's: junked == store credit for what you paid for it + fulfillment of service plan. My service plans were always transferred over because the TV's were junked when they found that it was hopeless to get the repair shop to work on them.

Actually it depends on the product, the CSR, & whether it's still under manufacturer's warranty or not.

Some things (especially smaller items) you can do many times under the same warranty.
Being nice with the CSR can help a ton as well, as they often can easily keep the same warranty w/o making you paying for the new one (even if they're supposed to).
And in general, if the product is still under the manufacturer's warranty, they won't make you pay for a warranty again.

IOW, there's a lot of a factors that get involved.

Yea, basically they just stapled the Exchange reciept into my Replacement Plan pamphit along with the previous Exchange reciept and original purchase reciept.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just did some reading on the policy and its looks like some of you guys were correct on it expiring if the product is replaced after the expiration of the manufacturers warrenty.

However, because MS extended thier warrenties till 3 years, Im guessing the manufacturers warrenty will out live the 2 yr replacement plan letting me return my 360 as many times as it breaks until theend of the plan.

The 3 year warranty ONLY applies to RRoD failures. It's only 1 year for any other type of failure. So I guess it would depend on how Best Buy interprets that situation.
