I returned my 99 lexus rx300 to the dealer yesterday. The guy checked off "no" to all the damage, abuse, missing parts, etc on the vehicle condition report even though the car had a zillion door dings on both sides from parking daily in a NYC garage. I was thinking they'd still stick me with a bill for repairs so I pretended to be interested in a new IS300 just to butter him up a little... then I started to feel bad, so I opted out of a test drive and told him if I was interested, I'd give him a call. He signed the report and off I went.

Before I returned the car, I was debating on whether or not I should take it to a dent wizard... good thing I didn't. :D

I never really loved that car, but I did feel sad as I was leaving. I didn't take great care of it during the last 2 years (of a 4 year lease), but when I saw it parked there as I was leaving I felt guilty (as retarded as it may sound). Never had a single problem with that car. I'd definately buy another lexus if there were any that interested me.

Right now I'm driving my fiance's 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but I'm waiting for my 04 bmw 330ci to arrive. I ordered it in Feb... should be here in May.

The dealer that we leased our van from went out of business. Can we return the van to any other dealer?

When I returned my car they asked me more than once which dealer I had originally leased it from, so I'm assuming they will take lease returns from other dealerships.

Nope, nobody bought them out.

I think Bank of America will come after me. :) Plus, I'm tired of this Chrysler van already.

pay a little more, own the car, keep it as long (or short) as I want, don't have to constantly worry about going over the leased miles, add stuff to the car (audio, spoilers, whatever)...

Why wouldn't you want to lease again? Im considering leasing when I get a new car. ( Which won't be for like 6 years. but hey i gotta plan ahead right ;) )

I don't like leasing cars simply because I always feel certain limits, and the car doesn't even feel like its mine.

I recently bought a 2001 Toyota 4Runner and I feel very proud of being able to do what the heck I want with it. I can remove factory bumper for 4x4 wheeling, I can add or remove or upgrade other parts, and nobody will present me a bill for that later (except a bill for my upgrades, but that's a different story, hehe) :)

If one typically will always have a new car at least every 3-4 years, leasing makes a lot of sense. You couldn't purchase a car over a 5-year or more plan and expect to trade it in every 3-4 years and make anything on it. And paying cash for a car just never made sense to me unless you just really hate having a montly payment. Esp. in the day and age of 0%, 0.9%, 1.9% APR.

If I was going to buy, say, a truck and keep it for many years until it literally fell apart, sure, buying makes sense but if I want a new car every 2-3 years, leasing is definitely the best option (just be sure to negotiate the sticker price down and the mileage allowance up - allow for vacations and such on top of normal driving).

BTW, I'm the type of person who would typically not do anything aftermarket to a vehicle ('cept maybe replace the radio but in many new cars that's darn near impossible or not worth it as the factory radios have improved).
