Returned HTC Incredible... now what?

So I ditched the iPhone 3G since ATT service is pretty bad here in Maine. Verizon is much better coverage wise and I jumped on an HTC Incredible a month ago. After doing a bunch of travel, I was somewhat disappointed with the data reception. I went on a road trip with someone that had a Droid, and one with an iPhone. I seemed to have comparable service to the iPhone, and the Droid user had much better service. So I returned the phone today and broke out of the contract and went back to a blackberry I had kicking around. However, I am kind of having buyer's remorse about returning it since the blackberry sucks! But I also wasn't really happy with the Incredible. Don't get me wrong, it was about 80% there, but just not good enough for me to want to hold onto it for 2 years...

So in short... what can I expect in the future and how long will I need to wait for the next best thing on Verizon?

I'm confused... you had a Droid Incredible on Verizon, and someone else had a Droid (presumably Verizon service), and he had much better service?

Yes, the person with the Droid had 3G and 3-4 bars in many areas where I had only 1X and 2-3 bars and couldn't really use any data features. I tried resetting the phone, but it didn't help. In most places the phone was fine, but in those rural places, the HTC just could not keep up.

The bars mean nothing on these phones (the Incredible actually has the "death grip" like the iPhone). I look into the settings and look at the network signal strength. As far as the 3G, not sure...my phone actually goes out of 3G service sometimes in my office in a well covered area. Our sales rep said it was the the trees and wind combination.

sivart has it right. But if you're wanting something different, my wife and I give props to the Droid X. We love ours. For the record, we both came from Incredibles, of which I thought was also a great phone.

Pretty sure the Droid X is best in class right now for reception. 1Q 2011 should bring dual-core goodness, but it's hard to tell what the radio effectiveness of the choices will be.

It is weird how everyone wanted smaller phones 6-7 years ago and now everyone wants a bigger phone. 4.3" is too big for my pocket...3.7" is pushing it, but seems to work.

Did you actually lose signal? Did you run a speed test to see if the phone was actually slower?

The bars aren't really representative of much =(

That's because phones in the old days weren't one all-important video screen.

The X *is* on the large side, but that's not what this thread is about...

While it is true that the bars don't really represent anything, it is also true that HTC is known for terrible antennas. None of their phones get as good as reception as Motorola phones. I noticed this problem when I had my Incredible, but it never became a huge issue for me.

I'm on a Fascinate now, but if reception is your biggest "need" area then I think you need a Droid X.
