Returnable beer bottles?

What the heck is this? I was just at the liquor store and they had "returnable bottles" in these sturdy cases... The returnable ones were cheaper than the regular ones, so I bought a case. What's the deal with this? Do I like, bring it back to the store when I am done with the beer? How come I have never seen this before?

In Michigan you get 10 cents for every empty you return to the store.

returnables are a great way for the homebrewer to get a good bottle collection quick.

How are these bottles any different than any other bottles?

You may observe that they're stronger, with thicker glass that can withstand repeated uses and subsequent sterilization at high temps, and they use a standard bottle cap, just like home brewers use.
