So i moved into this apt and it turns out the guy before me was army personel and was shipped off to iraq/afganistan/etc but ever since some of his mail has been coming here. Well so far its just throw away stuff but yesterday i got something BIG. His W2 forms (or at least thats what it says on the outside, yearly payment information).

I'm assuming the best thing to do would be to "return to sender" but how is this done? i've forwarded mail before and just written the new address on the outside, can you just write return to sender on the outside and mail it off and it will go back to where it came from?

Write "Return to Sender - Addressee No Longer Lives @ Address" on the envelope and put it in a mailbox.

I had a friend who worked at the USPS and recommended that you write the following in RED INK (so it's noticeable and stands out).

REFUSED
RETURN TO SENDER

For this situation, it's usually better to add "WRONG ADDRESS" here, or leave a post-it or something on it that says the person no longer lives here.

Or if you have a few seconds drop by the post office and explain it to them... they will usually make sure you aren't getting his mail anymore.
