i just bought a maxtor drive...

and i opened it.

but i need to return it now, because the project i am working on for a friend ended up being scrapped....

am I allowed to return it? Will there be a restocking fee?
 
Is this in Canada or the States?

Why not ask them about it and explain what happened. Your item would then be sold as open box, which means I get a decent discount on a new drive. 😉
