Return of Stolen Money

Ok so Friday my good friends wife had her purse stolen out of her car. She had just taken $2000 out of the bank for a purchase. Well today the police made an arrest thanks to a camera covering the parking lot. They were able to recover everything but the cash. The detective said he would give him a call back on Wed at the earliest to talk about it. My friend wants to know if he is out of luck as far as recovering the money. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

You could probably sue the guy that gets convicted for the loss of the money. All you would have to do is prove that the money was in the purse when the guy took it.

i doubt that you'll find a insurance policy that would cover stolen cash...

some homeowners and renters policies will cover for stolen property even if it is off site...

I doubt insurance would cover it. You could say that the purse had a film cap full of diamonds worth about $3k. Lets say deductible was $300, you'll still come out ahead.

you'd have a civil case I think...

although the chances of recovering the money after winning the case; that's another story

She left a handbag with $2000 cash in an unattended car?

that was my first thought as well, that amount of money would nto leave my side

Unbelievable... I get paranoid when I'm carrying around more than about $50. I don't like cash. let's do away with it, right quick.

that was my first question to him, and it was his first question to her. She left it under a seat and when the kid broke the window he pulled a radio and found the bag. Unlucky but also unwise.

Some car insurance policies cover items inside the vehicle, but I doubt the Insurance place is gonna reimburse that.
