I purchased my D420 for about $1100

I want something small and convienent.
I like this laptop a lot. Very easy to carry, sturdy build, I can see myself carrying this around campus to work on projects and do late night studying

I know the white basic macbook is about the same price and I'm wondering if I should return this dell and get the macbook

any thoughts?

Idk, the D420 looks like a nice notebook (which seems to be a general feature of the latest iterations in the Latitude line). You also have to remember that you have the native support of XP on the D420 (hotkeys work properly within the XP environment, while with the macbook in XP will not have working hotkeys).

What are the specs of your D420 and what are the specs of the basic macbook?

Edit: Weight and size wise, the D420 clearly wins at 3lbs and a smaller footprinte than the 5.2lbs macbook. I would think that the weight would be a major factor if you plan on carrying a notebook around a lot.

is it cramped?

to me, it feels fine. However, the different keyboard sizes never bothered me... I didn't even think about the keyboard size to be honest

Overall, I like the way the laptop feels, much better than my dell 600m

light and easy to carry

i don't know why anyone considers macs unless they want to run os x. and yes i have one, and yes i love os x. but i keep seeing these threads, i don't know why you'd buy a macbook or macbook pro to run windows on it. my advice is to go to an apple store, try one out there at least, get an idea what you're getting into.

oh, and they released a firmware fix for the moo'ng problem.

and as i pointed out in another thread, Bootcamp 1.1 fixes a lot of MacBook/MacBookPro driver issues while in XP. If you're looking for a laptop and don't want to dump Windows yet, the MB/MBP warrant serious consideration.
