Retrieving WEP key from router

I have a SMC Barricade 2804WBRP-G and want to know if it's possible to find out what the WEP key has been set on the router. There are the text boxes for the 4x WEP keys but they're all in a password text box so you don't get to see the actual key. If I misplaced my key and want to get another laptop onto my wireless network I have to reset the WEP key. It's slightly annoying as I have to reset the WEP keys on all the other laptops in my house. It's not a lot of work, but I'm wondering if there's a better way asides from keeping a copy of the WEP key somewhere else.

I know some other routers just show the WEP key (without being astrixed out), which is nicer in my opinion.

I'm not using WPA because my linux drivers for my wifi doesn't support WPA yet, but same situation. Oh yeah, I know I can sniff and crack my own network but I don't want to do that 😛

Cliff-notes:
I want to get the WEP key from the router
Router has the WEP key in a password box and is not readable
WEP key must be reset if I want to get another computer on my network and can't get the original key

WEP key is passworded even in the router settings through the admin portal? If so, it might be stored in a registry type config file somewhere but you'd have to find it. I'd just change it and write it down somewhere.

You could also check on the client PCs. Some Wireless clients store the WEp codes unencrypted in their config files somewhere but you'd have to find those as well.

If it's stored in a password box on the router admin page, you may be able to get the key just by viewing the HTML source.

Why didn't I think of that? 😛

The key is in the HTML source. Thanks!

P.S. I'm using XP machines so it's encrypted on client machines as well.
