Retiring a multi server.. Xeon 2.4 Ghz x2 w/ 2GB RDRAM.
The motherboard is dying and out of 3 year warranty so I need to replace it.
I can just sell the rdram on ebay for over 500 bucks.. :)

The server was a multi purpose server. Hosted a LSI PCIx SCSI card with 8 73gb scsi + 7 146gb scsi drives.

It ran file services, windows 2003 DC (VM), windows 2003 RIS (VM), windows 2003 SUS (VM) and exchange 2k3 (VM) and misc other VM for testing.

Should I aim for 64/x2 series or Opteron series ? I'm leaning towards the 64/x2 series because I dont really need the stuff on opteron. I think a general 64/x2 series can out perform my existing dual xeon 2.4 already.

The only thing I'm concern about is that I'll be running my scsi in 32bit mode instead of 64bit.. for general file store use.. I dont think thats a big problem.

I can just go get a pci express scsi raid card when it comes out.. so I'm not that worry about it...

Besides the DFI Lan Party SLI or A8N-SLI Premium.. what others are good ?
