Too bad my grandfather didn't kill this fool on Eastern front.

Where does it say this guy even served on the Eastern Front?

And it would be interesting to see something from the other perspective for a change in my opinion. I would go see it out of interest if I was in the area. The Jews use WWII and the Holocaust as their moral high ground trump card just like idiots these days cry racism whenever they don't want to debate facts. I am not denying the Holocaust or anything of the sort but it would be interesting to see the perspective of the common German infantryman. They were the common man fighting for their country and to them things looked no different than it did to the average US GI. I don't care if the guy was in the SS as that is only significant if he was in a position of power or actrually involved in atrocities.

There were common infantrymen, and there was SS division. There's plenty of memoirs from common soldiers published as books, and most of them confirm that SS was not a simple 'you were drafted and had to fight' affair. Also, all of the memoirs note how cruel and callous the soldiers in SS were compared to the regular German soldiers.

Yes, the guess is correct: both AniMal's and my grandfathers fought on the Russian front.

Don't Canada and the US deport ex-Nazi soldiers? Why has he been allowed to stay, better yet, why was he allowed to come in to the country?

well thats insane. Why would they deport Soldiers that faught against the US? they did nothing wrong.

My dads father was in WWII for the U.S. and my Mothers father was a German soldier in WWII. Whenever they get together they sit and drink and talk about WWII. there is no hatred or disgust. they understand the other is a soldier and did what he had to.

lol, I'd like to see his version of truth - could be very amusing.

I probably wouldn't find his version amusing, though. I have no doubt it would simply serve to peeve me off!

Maybe, maybe not. Who knows until he builds it and we go see. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw things that I know not to be true but you have to remember that the victors write history. This guy has as much right to his memorial as anyone else in this country has to their own perpsective and opinion just as those viewing it have the right to disagree with it's content.

People lose sight of just how great a leader Hitler was because all they see is the evil but it is impossible to deny the greatness he brougth to Germany in under 20 years and under the constraints of the oppressive Versailles Treaty. That treaty alone did more to cause WWII than any other event and bringing Germany back from ashes to a world power in less than 2 decades and almost conquering the civilized world is rather amazing regarless of how evil the man was.

Unlike other wars though as recounted by William L. Shirer in "The Rise And Fall of the Third Reich" due to the swift collapse of Germany in 1945 the surrender resulted in the vast bulk of their secret papers coming into the possesion of the Allies. This stuff sat around for years in what is now known as The Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. In addition even more has come to light in recent years with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the release of even more documentation. You really need to read Shirer's book before you make statements like your 2nd paragraph.

I'm Jewish, and this really offends me. I've never heard anyone using the Holocaust as a "trump card," and your ignorance is evident by this comment.

Pauleny is correct, my gradnfather faught in the Red Army. In fact, he's one of lucky 3% of his generation that survived. 97% of young men born between 1920 and 1924 were wiped out.

Back on topic, Ronstang's ignorance is both sad and disturbing. Waffen SS soldiers were anything, but common infantrymen. In fact, read some of the memours written by real Wermacht soldiers and officers, and you'll see how much hatred they felt towards SS. Many were well aware of atrocities commited by SS and it fueled their hatred for SS even more. Lastly, all concentration camps were ran by SS.

Waffen SS force comprised of 100% volunteers. Those of German nationality were either Hitler Youth or NSDAP members, both of which were volunteer organizations, unlike what Pope Benedict wants us to believe.
