I want to start learning iOS, swift and metal. Do I need the extra horsepower of the quad core in the 15 rmbp or will the dual core in the 13 work?

Also I am not interested in building a hackintosh or using a desktop/iMac/mini.

Will this be your primary workstation, and/or do you do anything that demands a discrete gpu? If yes to both, I'd probably go with the 15''. Otherwise, the 13'' should be great.

Honestly, for that sort of thing, the MacBook Air would also be fine, I use my '10 MBA11 to do xcode. Though, if you're looking for a 13" screen, the rMBP is the way to go, even though it is slightly more expensive. It's faster, and oh my the screen...
