Retarded UPS

So I had this thing I sold on EBay that required a large box. To ship it cheaply it required me cutting a bigger box that I had in half, and then connecting them therefore cutting down the size of it to half (in height). Anyways I had to use a ton of elmer's carpenter glue, some vices for a night, and some bricks, packing tape, newspaper, etc... to make sure the box wouldn't break open in shipping.

I figured $15 to ship it would be fine after getting a UPS rate quote online, and that's what the guy paid.

So anyways I go to UPS who tells me I can't ship it unless they open it (I guess a new rule as of a month ago). This is supposedly to check if the item is secure enough, I figure it's to check to make sure it isn't a bomb. Anyways I try to assure him it's packed fine and that since it's truly not a box box it can't really be opened. Anyways he gets smart with me and tells me I have 2 options, rip open the box (which would totaly screw me since it couldn't be resealed), or take it somewhere else (where I'd obviously pay more, since UPS is the cheapest for big items).

So I take my business to Mail Boxes Etc. whom charges me $26, making $11 commision off me, to ship the damned box via UPS ground.

I swear to god....

Nope UPS doesn't open it unless you take it to them I guess...totally stupid. They just shipped it fine through MBE. I would have bought a box but you have to understand the dimensions were really jacked, 40" x 10" x 16". Most boxes that long probably would have been huge.

My Mom's Reebok Step. If I got it out of the house I got the money. Simple enough for me lol.

I'd bet money that the guys at MBE will say your tough out of luck if it breaks. It's always nice to make friends with the people at ups if you go more than once a week. They never open my packages any more :).

The UPS customer counters still charge a premium over UPS prices. I have a daily pickup at my business and we pay less. UPS seems to favor a business more than walk-in customers. I never have a problem with packaging, and if something does get damaged in shipment they always get a check out to me in a couple days.

I'd say that if you pack it right, you can ship anything with ups and it won't break. IMO *MOST* things that break are because of the packer's fault.. ie. using weak boxes and or styrofoam peanuts - a bad combo. I've shipped hundreds of items with ups and the **only time** something broke was the two times when i used a weak box with peanuts. Get double walled boxes and consider getting hard foam (home depot) to pack stuff like monitors.
