At my wife's school they have a short assignment to do at the start of class called bellwork. Recently wife (Math Teacher) had them write 5 sentences. (Once a week every teacher must include some writing bell-work to try and improve their spelling/grammar.) Here are some of the responses:

-We didnt have know bellwork monday
-We didnt do work witch isn good
-I don know what she was tryna do
-I hate garbein noms (garden gnomes)
-(Two years ago) I was sad because my gammy pasted away. I went to the funarl and my cuzin was thier
-I hate maskitoes (Mosquitoes)

When I was a sr in highschool (05-06) I was good friends with one of the english teachers, so I may or may not have had access to other students' work, and it may or may not have been really disappointing. Hard to believe the number of high school students who struggle not only with spelling and simple sentence structure, but also simple computer usage. The majority of the papers didn't have proper headings, page numbers, spacing, formatting, none of it. But they knew they needed to, so they would type in headers and page numbers on the first line and keep going.

Friends liked having me edit their papers as well, man it gets ugly.
