Retarded NBA situation..Clippers/Grizzlies tonight

So right now the Clips are the 6th seed and Memphis is the 5th seed. They're both playing tonight and the winner will get the 5th seed spot..which at first glance seems like you'd have the advantage.

However the #5 seed plays Dallas (because of the retarded NBA division setup) who has 60 wins this season and won't have homecourt advantage during that first round.

The #6 seed then gets to play #3 Denver who have just 44 wins so far this season..and not only that the #6 seed will have home court advantage because they both have better records than Denver.

The bottom line then is, the LOSER of this game will have home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the far inferior team.

It will be interesting to see how this game plays out..

go Kings! even if they don't make it far into the playoff, next year with a full season should play out much better. Artest boldly predicted they'll make it into the 2nd round but that'll be one helluva upset. Then again he predicted they'll be in the playoffs back in Jan when they were under 500.

I have seen this confirmed on many sites, including http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/matchups .

Wierd.

In the NFL, playoff home field advantage use to be based on the "rotation" system, which is why the undefeated 1972 Dolphins had to play the AFC Championship Game on the road against the Steelers.

Of course, the worse system is the one used in MLB (World Series HFA based on the winner of the All-Star Game. Come on!).

Yeah because we all know that rookies lead teams to NBA championships.

What caused this stupidity the NBA going to three divisions per conference. It has always been that the division winners get the top two seeds automatically, so when they went to three, it became top three. The problem is, the divisions aren't in anyway balanced, so you get this. They need to seed by record and end this madness.

Yeah I said the same thing a little while back.. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1801059&enterthread=y

keep the division setup but drop the east/west thing.

assure play off spots for the division winners. then for the next 10 spots, go by win/loss.

that way teams right now in the west won't feel cheated out that teams in the east can be below 500 and still make the playoffs. couple of years back its worst. this year isn't so bad with teams 1 or 2 loses below 500.

this atleast assures teams that work hard to try and be up their get a shot at the playoffs.
Plus that way my Warriors have a shot at ending our 12 year playoff drought.
