Retain Fullscreen aspect ratio(XP)

I have a widescreen laptop, and when I use full screen apps it stretches to fit. So things like games look weird. So where is the setting to keep the aspect ratio, so there will be black bars on the sides.

I've done it before but I can't remember where the setting was.

Windows normally doesn't control this directly. It's up to the video drivers (and in some cases, the monitor) to decide how to handle resolutions that don't match native. If you can modify it on your laptop, it's probably under Control Panel->Desktop->Settings->"Advanced...".
