Retail VS Network Admin

Nocturnal

Lifer
Can anyone tell me the differences between the two? A meeting with the CEO of the company I work for today changed my whole perspective on retail, and not in a good way. I am also changing my major as of Monday to CENT Computer Engineering Network Technology.

Thanks!

The differences between retail work and network administration? I think the only thing they have in common is dealing with dumb people....

As far as "customer is always right" and customer interaction, as far as a network admin's duties go there is rarely customer interaction, right? Retail is customer is always right, work to hit quota, do this, make sure anyone below you is on track, if they aren't, take the measures to make them up to date, etc.

Retail sucks. My wife worked as a retail manager for many years. Often, she would spend many hours after the store had closed so she could set up for a sale during the following day. Plus, about twice each year, she would have to remain at the store on a Saturday evening so the carpets could be cleaned and the hardwood floors could be buffed. And the customers ... oh, the customers: the shoplifters, the armed robberies, the burglaries (some thieves ripped out the safe, but it into a shopping cart and pushed it out the back door.) Then, there's the call at 3:00 A.M. from the security company who received an alarm, dispactched the local police who later found out the front window of the store was busted out. My wife had to park her car outside the store for 3-4 hours until a window company arrived to put some plywood over the opening. Then, there were the times when her company had to apply for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection - this actually happened twice. Finally, the last time, it turned into a Chapter 7 bankruptcy (liquidation.)

Oh, the memories that I have. I'm just glad she doesn't work retail any more. At one time, she was making more money as a retail manager than I was making in my I.T. careeer. However, my career started to pay more, so she stepped down to part-time and then eventually got out of retail.
