Soyo is giving out "free" mobos all over the place. Until I get my first rebate back, I'm holding off on any more.

Well from what I have read the rebates do eventually come after many months/half a year or so but man $160 is quite a gamble!

Why not just buy a new cooler for the northbridge? True it does sound like a fairly good board, but $160 is too much for me to gamble.

$160 is too much, especially for soyo rebate....kinda risky...

I read somewhere that they are able to sell you stuff for "free" by acting as a borrower...sort of like a ghetto bank.

By using the money you plunked down for the mobo, putting it in investments for 6 months, and then paying you off around the 5-6 month period, they actually sorta make money.

I got stung on a soyo rebate from newegg... the mobo is still in the shipping box. I'll be honest, when I build a system, I use better components, I just got sucked in by the "free" offer, but after ten weeks, they say they never got your application, it is moot. How much time are you going to spend trying to recoup the bux? Then you're left with a second rate board you paid full price for.

I'm in for 2 "free" soyo mobos now :-(....think we should start a Rebates Anonymous group. Anyway, what is this cyberrebate everyone keeps referring to? And if I keep on their a$$es about my cash every month will i most likely get my money from soyo?? Thanks for the input.

Mt friend purchased this motherboard. It has problems with WinXP SP2.... even after the latest BIOS which it claims fixes it. I would not buy it if it was $10.

No overclocking at all and using other quality components. It would not install WinXP SP2 at all. Only had it working with Winxp (no sp at all). and would randomly reboot from time to time. I did a search on the net and seems like others are having somewhat the same problem as my friend.

Well...zipzoomfly takes 1st yr warranty according to their site...so thats better than dealin w/SOYO.

Soyo=Bad very bad. Never got my rebate. The system board would fail prime 95 after less than an hour. Tried new processor (known good from another machine) tried 3 different types of memory Corsair, Kingston, and generic all had same issue. Tried new video card same thing, new bios same thing. Changed out systemboard same thing. Their support team=horrible..... No way I would ever get one of these "free sytemboards again" too expensive even at that price.

I dont like the wait time on the rebate but in the poll about how long soyo rebates were most everyone got theres and im sure people havent will and then theres those who didnt do the rebate properly.
BUT this is a $170 motherboard

4 channels ide, 4 sata! thats more then any motherboard ive ever seen, I planned on getting motherboard with 3 ide 4 sata and using a pci ide card to build an 8 drive raid 5 setup in windows 2003

with this I dont need the pci card and ill have ...
4 ide 160gb drives
4 sata 160gb drives
(all 8mb cache course)
all drives wont have to be exactly same
NO drives runing on slave (slow raid 5 down alot!)

and ill have 1120gb of USEABLE space, peace of mind if a drive fails, AND will be faster then these wd 10,000rpm raid 0 setups everyones building

edit: well make that 7 drives in raid5, ill need one for windows2003 of course

Both rebates have to be registered online so maybe it's a new method for them to keep track of it better? Still $160 is too much for me to spend considering I have a great comp already...in my sig

Email them asking where is your rebate. That's what I did after waiting a month while all of my three rebates read "Approved" and no confirmation of a check being sent. Two days after their email reply (1 day after my e-mail) the check was printed and sent. I received all three checks (totalling ~160 bucks) on the same day. I'm still waiting for another that never showed up in their rebate web site. Hint: always send these rebates with signature confirmation like I did and if they say that they haven't received them you can state the name of the person that signed for the rebate submission and they'll have to accept your rebate. It is hard, but do not think these boards are 100% free, there is work involved in getting the rebates... :|

The representative said that the Soyo USA branch would continue to make motherboards, although he implied that the company may rebrand third-party boards, as readers have reported.

"As you know SOYO Group, Inc. and SOYO Taiwan are separate companies," the Soyo representative wrote in an emailed statement to ExtremeTech.com.

"SOYO Taiwan's decision to exit motherboard manufacturing does not materially affect SOYO Group," the statement added. "SOYO has multiple motherboard suppliers and will continue to introduce new products to the market. Our current rebate and warranty programs remain in place for SOYO products and will be honored.

"The SOYO USA operations remain unchanged, and will continue developing new motherboards... "'
