Retail Seagate hard drives?

I have only seen seagate HDs sold in a retail box at frys. Is there any other place to get them like that? Online maybe? Could come in handy because when buying their serial ATA drives OEM, you get the bare drive and no power adapter 🙁 .

plus for those of you who own a barracuda V sata 8mb cache drive? How do you like it?

Barracuda IV is the best drive I've ever had, I imagine the V isn't bad either.

Best Buy has Barracuda IV's, or did the last time I went to one. Don't know if they'll ever have anything else.

hmm yeah newegg might be the way to go. unless frys has some good deal out of the blue. Same warranty for both packages right? The lame 1 year?

Last time I was at my local Best Buy here in Central Calif they had Boxed Seagate IDE drives in all sizes for sale. They have had them here at this Best Buy now for at least the last 4 months or more. Not sure about CompUSA as I don't go in there much but sware I saw Seagate there too but for sure at BB. Have had GREAT luck with all the Seagates I have owned except for the old Medalist 2.1 Gig which a few other users seemed to have problems with also. Other than that their drives have been first rate. I have a Baracuda SCSI also and it's the most reliable Hard Drive I have ever owned. That sucker keeps on running and running and running! 😀

I think BB only sells the PATA Barracuda Vs with 2mb cache now. At least that is all I have seen.

I am considering getting the Barracuda V with 8MB cache as well. Just have to decide whether to upgrade to SATA now or not.

Power adapter? Whats that?

cool, good to know... I still want to see one in action myself so I can see if I can tolerate the noise level before I buy it. Damn those JB drives have scarred me for life
