Retail Radeon 8500 $160???

A few sites are selling retail Radeon 8500's for around $160 (US). Fticomputer.com and Enpc.com have it that cheap. Check it out on Pricewatch.

Do these prices sound Kosher? I just checked two days ago and Newegg had retail R8500s for ~ $220.

Could this be the first wave in real price reductions in anticipation of the Geforce4 series? Are these deals worth jumping on now or will the new GeForce4 Ti4200 prove to be the best price/performance card to get? I hate this vicious cycle of lusting for hardware, deprivation, waiting, saving, agonizing, buying, and then feeling empty.

It's quite possibly a retail "powered by ATI" card meaning a licensed one (usually with a slightly slower core/mem clock). Hercules is making the whole lineup of ATI cards now as "powered by ATI" Hercules cards. Beware! ATI cards are faster and I'm not sure if you can use the newest leaked ATI drivers on "powered by ATI cards."

Video Cards : ATI Radeon 8500 64MB 275MHz AGP Dual Monitor - Retail Boxed 100-431001 (ATI ORIGINAL PRODUCT)

Looks real to me. Dang, wish I had the money. Needa new video card once Warcraft III comes out.

Perhaps they are just clearancing the 64mb versions to make way for the 128mb versions ATI recently announced.

Just a guess really.

Just called FTI Computers... they claim it's a true ATi Retail Radeon8500 board, not a OEM or third party.

compuplus has retail one for 160 also... and bestbuy has it for 199 now...

how can this card drop so much ?

<< That looks legit, I tried to buy one, but $45.00 to Alaska is a little steep! >>

from that enpc place (its in ny)... shipping for me is only $13.21 (i am in NJ). hehe 😛

EEK!! the other place wants $0 shipping... they can kiss me bum!

i ordered an oem 8500 (refurb) from newegg last nite for $139 shipped. i told them i was going to send them a check/MO... so i can still have my order cancelled. i am thinking about cancelling it now, that i realize i can get the retail 8500 for $173.20 from enpc should i do it? and enpc is in NY... shipping would be blazing fast... as opposed the newegg card coming from CA. decisions, decisions! 😱

Whats going on? Retail 8500's have suddenly gone from around $220 to $165 within 1 week!! (or so it seems), we know the R250 is very close and that would have some affect on prices, but with that kind of drop in prices, it makes one think that possibly R300 may be here sooner than we think?

Of course I realise that GF4 being released has an effect on prices of GF3 cards, and Ati has to respond in like with their pricing, but 8500's are priced near GF3 Ti200 now, and the 8500 smokes the Ti200 in benches.

I just purchased one at ENPC.com. It is an ATI Radeon 8500 64MB 275MHz AGP Dual Monitor - Retail Boxed 100-431001 (ATI ORIGINAL PRODUCT). Price 159.99 + 13.00 in shipping to MI. A great bang for the buck.
The Newegg card is an LE model which only has a 230MHz core not a 275MHz core. Just make sure you get a retail version that has a 275MHz core, a LE or OEM card is usually slower 230-250Mhz.

Maybe Ati has their DX9 compliant part ready to go? Oh well, guess we'll find out in the CEBit coverage here shortly.

<< The Newegg card is an LE model which only has a 230MHz core not a 275MHz core >>

Newegg has both the oem le and the retail ATI 8500's.

w00t! I was looking on pricewatch and saw these too..... pigworthy, tell us your experience when you get the card..... i considered ordering from enpc.com....

w00t!

Why not buy it from Gateway/NECX for $174.95, add another $25 worth of stuff (there are two MS games with full rebates), apply the $50 off coupon and you get the card for $125 plus your other $25 stuff. Did I mention shipping is free for orders over $199?🙂

Got my card yesterday. It is a full in the box retail version, as advertised, 275Mhz core with all the cables, adapters, and games. Only problem I had was trying to find out if it had been shipped or not, and when they responded it was already at my door. Other than that it was a smooth transaction.

Estimated shipping charge: $18.12

that ends up to be about $180, I rather pay $20 more to get it from a reputable company if I already didn't have one. Before I bought mine off AT FS/FT I was looking for a OEM 250/250 r8500, I called at least 10 different companies on pricewatch. They are almost ALL shady companies!! Royal computer, who is on there as one of the "lowest" prices for many products didn't cancel my order after telling them, they still billed the CC, until the 2nd time I had to call and remind them to cancel it.

<< rbV5 I meant no offense, I just meant to say the $168 card at newegg was a LE model. >>

Actually, they had the RETAIL model for $168. It was the last ATI card on the list after the FireGL models, so it was easily missed and they didn't actually stay in stock for long. I was just pointing it out, as I feel Newegg is a top retailer, and I'd buy from them before about anyone else personally.

As far as being offended, 😀, hehe, I had to reread the thread, and I see nothing posted by you or anyone else even the least bit offensive to me? Looks to me like you got your card for a great price! Myself, I just got my AIW 7500 yesterday, can't wait to get it set up.

I got a Retail Radeon 8500 last week, and ended up paying $275cdn plus tax; using ExchangeRate.com, that puts it at just over $171usd (no shipping, as I got it from a "real" store 🙂)

So I would think that around $160-180usd is the new price point for the Retail Radeon 8500.

That gateway deal is the way to go. Overall, the price has dropped bigtime. I'm very excited. Top offering from ati at midrange prices. This card should be well over $200 just on principle. I don't mind though.
