Retail FX-55 is Cheaper than OEM, WTF? (UPDATE FX-55 Clawhammer?)

Is this a typo, or is there a reason for this? FX-55

EDIT: I went back and looked at this link again and noticed that the core was called Clawhammer on these. I thought that the FX-55 core was called Sledgehammer. Is this just a typo on Newegg's part or is something else going on here? (Or am I wrong about it being called Sledgehammer?)

because more people are buying the retail, so newegg restocks those more often, and the longer the fx-55 is out, the cheaper the prices goes

therefore, on the reorder, newegg pays less than it did, say, a month ago

but they still have the OEMs from the last order they made from AMD and don't want to lose $$

Actually this appears to be a new policy at the egg.

A couple weeks ago I was looking at the black plextor SATA DVDRW drive. It was listed at $105 but it was OOS.

When I received autonotification that it was back in stock when I went to place my order, the price mysteriously shot up to $130.

Just be warned to check your total before hitting the order button or you might get a surprise.

Luckily enough a week later it was down to $120 - a $30 MIR which was a bit better.

Still, considering the eggs reputation, it seems a little shady to me.

Ah, but can you buy support hardware for each processor? Or a motherboard and OS that can use 7 A64 3000s?

The FX-55 is the king of the hill for the moment and people will pay money to stand on that hill, for however short its reign may be.

It's still less than what I've seen P4 EE's for. Even now, the P4 EE 3.4GHz is ~$1,000 which is trumped by an FX 55 easily.

So IMO it's a bargian compared to Intel's offering.

I agree, waste of money for most of us. I bought my 3500+ Winchester, K8N Neo2 Plat, and two 74 GB Raptors for less. I'm also at 2.6 GHz, but with less L2 cache.

So it's kind of silly to buy that proc IMO.

yeap, at stock speeds, rather then thinking about OCing it and give a thought about stability issue or heat factor
if they got the money to throw , why not.
