A warning about eVga. I bought a gf2mx from them a while ago, and since then it has given me nothing but trouble. From everything I can tell there is some problem with the memory on the card (purple spots randomly appear in any 3d app, and RARLY, and randomly, in windows) but the evga techs still tell me it's some sort of driver problem, even though I've messed around with several versions of the dets. Can't get an RMA for it at all. You are forewarned . . .

Chu, I've experienced similar problems. It boggled me, so I got a new videocard altogether.

Been there, done that.

ANYTIME you have purple, misplaced pixels or blocks on the screen in 3D, its BAD onboard memory from the videocard. Period.

chu: did you try the reference nvidia detonator drivers? I had a friend who had an eVGA TNT2 card that gave tons of problems and I eventually figured out that using detonator drivers did the trick.

Wouldn't the Elsa Gladiac MX at Newegg for $88 shipped be a better option? Just curious as a friend wants me to recommend a budget video card for his system and I am leaning towards this one.

PS. It too is retail package.

I got a Guillemot GeForce MX with TV Out from Newegg.com about two weeks ago. It was 89+5 fedex shipping. Got the card in two days. Been very happy with it ever since. Good tv output with S-video as well. Text is readable and games look great. VGA output is the same as any other MX.

I bought the GigaByte Geforce2 MX card with 32MB last saturday, and it is great. Don't use Gigabyte's drivers, use the nvidia Detonator ones, but when you do, its awesome. I'm trying to find it online, since I got it for $85 at the computer show. If I find a good price online, I'll post it.

All of my friends (and myself) have EVga cards and they're great! EVga's support is on the ball (expect responses to emails in 3-4 hours) and they'll replace any card you're having problems with. If you got some cards with damaged memory, next time try this tip: Don't LICK the card before you put it in the case.

That part threw me too when I first started getting into computers :)
