I've got an extra Celeron 900, but the fastest of the boards say they will only support chips up to 800 mhz. Can I just underclock the chip or is an 800 chip the limit?

You have to watch out though, they don't support much in the way of current CPU's. The one only has support for PPGA upto 500 I beleive. Not bad though for a second box to keep the kid happy.

beekeeper,

I've got a Celeron @ 950MHz on a older Slot-1 board that's only rated for 450MHz in one of my boxes. If it's on a Slocket with the jumpers, the board doesn't care.

The only potential downside is the board bios won't properly display the correct CPU and speed at boot-up, but you can always run CPUID.

Icarus,

Thanks. That's what I wondered. I've got a slightly underclocked AMD K6-3 running nicely on an ancient PCChips socket 7 (not super 7) mobo that doesn't recognize the chip, but it works fine if you ignore that.

If you check epox's website they recommend only up to the 800 on a rev .5 version. It might not have bios support. if you get it to work, let us know.
