RETAIL E6400 - SHOULD THE BOX INCLUDE THERMAL GREASE??

Just got my retail boxed E6400, it included the CPU the HSF but no thermal grease, although
on contact surface (view Picture)
( this picture is of an "old" P4 socket 775 CPU not the actual E6400) there are 3 bands (very thin layers) of what it seems to be the "thermal contact" between the CPU and the HSF.

Is this correct (enough) to install? or should the box had included thermal grease??

there should be some grey thermal paste on there. It melts when heat is applied and spreads.

The three lines are a thermal interface material. If you aren't overclocking, that is perfectly adequate. It's ready to go.

Anyone else care to confirm Aluvus´ comment pls?? (HAVE TO "DOUBLE OR TRIPLE CHECK" ´cause don´t want to end up with a Fried CPU.

And definitely Won´t be Overclocking.

You're only supposed to put TIM on those two or three lines to properly cover a C2D supposedly.

Eh? Those lines are the Thermal Interface Material. They are pre-applied for your convenience. Applying third-party products is a separate issue.

You don't get a tube of thermal paste. You get what's on the heatsink and that's it, same as every other retail Intel kit I've bought. In the past they were more like thermal pads that looked like dried bubble gum.

to add to this... is it possible or advisable to possibly wipe the intel grease off and use Arctic Silver 5? (im getting an E6400 tomorrow and intend on using the stock heatsink until my noctua cooler arrives) and i have alot of Arctic sliver left? would it be a good idea?

Clean the heatsink well (isopropyl alcohol will do, or even just some elbow grease and a lint-free cloth), follow Arctic Silver's application directions, and you'll be fine. If you aren't overclocking, it will be a complete waste of your time.
