retail cpu question

Hi, I just bought a 1.3 ghz celeron cpu retail. On the bottom of the heatsink there's a dark slippery film substance, should I take that off before putting it onto the cpu? what's that slippery film?

thx

lol, on retail cpus there are usually thermal heatpads that are attached to the bottom of the heatsinks. just peel back the protective layer and mount the heatsink on the cpu. do not scrape off the entire pad, just the protective layer.

Actually for the retail Intel CPU HSF, the dark slippery substance you see under the HSF is the thermal pad layer. Intel does not include a plastic protection film unlike the AMDs. Dont peel the dark slippery substance, Intel intended the HSF to be installed as is - no mod needed unless you're into OC'ing.
