Retail box X2 socket 939s?

Where did all of the socket 939 X2 CPUs go? Pricegrabber doesn't show a single place that sells an X2 3800+ for 939. All I see are AM2s. When I check the usual places (buy.com, zzf, newegg, mwave, etc..) none list this process in stock.

Are these a hot item now, or did AMD simply stop manufacturing them and instead switched to AM2?

Where do I go to buy a retail box version?

AMD stopped making them some time ago. Supply was bound to dry up eventually.

yeah, looks like OEM is the only way. I'm thinking about picking up the 3800+ x2 on newegg for 59 bucks.

This Is Not Correct :

AMD still Supports Socket 939 it is just not with Athlon 64 Branding.

AMD Opteron has Five part #s being shipped at least.

NewEgg Opteron Socket 939's

Opterons have almost always been more expensive than an equivalent A64.

In my subjective opinion, yes. Of course counting overclocking.

The OP asked about X2s. And nothing in your post suggests that AMD is still making Socket 939 Opterons, though they might be.

Athlon 64 x2 were phased out tward the end of last year. AMD came out with statements that they would still support Socket 939... but under the Opteron Branding.
The Toledo/Denmark cores are virtually identical.

Anyone that has a Socket 939 still has a source of new processors.

You gave the OP no assistance, and mis-information.

We are here to assist each other. I simply gave him good information, and an avenue better than Back-Bay.

I'd rather go retail and get the heatsink/fan/warranty, but I still don't see any deals on those.

Any suggestions for a cheap heatsink?

arctic freezer 64 pro is $30. I saw a tuniq for $47 recently, but I haven't looked in a while and don't know if they're still that cheap or not. the freezer pro will handle anything that you're going to do with a dual core, the tuniq will last you a long time into the quad core + era imho.

I only want one that would be equal to what comes with the retail version. The freezer 64 pro is crazy overkill.

You mean "mis-information" that agrees exactly with: "Athlon 64 x2 were phased out tward the end of last year."

That doesn't give you a right to be a dick to me for no reason.

actually, I just read that the freezer pro can be had for $17. It doesn't matter how crazy overkill it is, that's a fantastic price for solid cooler.

IMO that is far from overkill at $25 shipped, but an Ultra 120 eXtreme could be considered crazy overkill @ $60 shipped. :p If you want an oem hsf then you may want to consider this $7.25 solution.

oh yeah? I think I have a stock A64 3700+ cooler lying around somewhere that is FREE (plus shipping). Well, it's free if I can find it anyway...

That is a nice gesture offering up a heatsink, but that still doesn't change the fact that the artic freezer 64 is not really overkill, nor is it expensive.

A retail box version of the 4200+ would be 20 bucks more than the OEM. The artic freezer 64 is only $25 shipped or $21 + shipping at directron. Definately a good deal for someone that is just looking to extend their 939 system.
