Fry's
Something by GQ

A lot of good deals this week, probably going to ge the Sony 25pks for $9 at multiple stores, whichever ones are MIJ

My +R came up as YUDEN000T02 and my -R was SONY08D1 (both seem well-received at http://www.videohelp.com)

My Personal Tips on Buying DVDS:
[*]Always check for MIJ (Made in Japan), most of the time it'll provide top tier quality
[*]Use sites like http://www.nomorecoasters.com and http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia to determine what type of DVD stepping codes you'd get and what are proven good or bad
[*]Also use sites like http://www.cdrinfo.com and http://www.cdfreaks.comto find out how well the quality of DVD burners are actually doing
[*]Use programs like DVDIdentifier to find out what DVD media OEM's you're getting
[*]If you can afford it, get a Lite-On or NEC to check out how well your DVDs are burning and scan them for quality
[*]What's the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R? I just chose these random 4 links: A B C D
[*]But aside from the specs, the truth is that for the end user there will be no differences, since most burners and DVD players supports them both.

Sorry haven't done them in a while, school + work :-(

There are always DVD deals that aren't shown, (like a 25pk of ??? Brand for $15, but I usually try to post stuff under the $0.40/disk mark)

If you are "lucky" enough to have a MicroCenter nearby, they have DVD+R and DVD-R 8x discs under the WinData brand (rumored to be Taiyo Yuden, but packaging says made in Hong Kong).

14.99 for a 50 pack. Buy 3 or more, 11.99/pack.

I have a Microcenter down the street. Can anyone confirm these discs are TY's? If so, I am all over this.

1. the OMax links don't work for me. I don't know if it's just me or if the following will do any better:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/search/search.jsp?bvc=yes&searchType=product&searchString=2086-8688&searchBtn.x=11&searchBtn.y=14">Khypermedia 50-Pack 8x DVD+R or DVD-R - $13.88
</a>HP 50-Pack 8x 4.7GB DVD+Rs - $17.99
HP 25-Pack 8x 4.7GB DVD+Rs or -Rs - $8.99
2. Omax also shows Khypermedia 50pks DVD-R 4x 20749745 limited in store clearance for $10
3. The CompUSA ones are FMI brand.
4. Target stores have 50pks Imation 8x +/-R for $15.99 9/11-9/17

They're probably all CMCs (-R AE1, +R E01). I'll probably pick some of the HP ones up since I've got some GCs to get rid of (sadly the HPs are probably the best ones that OM sells compared to the rest of their selection)

FYI..I purchased 4 pcks on Fuji MIJ..TY02, 2 batches 1158/1159 were pure crap..I returned them they were so bad

next 2 pck of 50 pcks are ok...but not as good as previous TY02..not sure if this have been on the shelves a long time or what..but TY02 quality is becoming more inconsistent...

I burned these on a Benq1620 that was giving awesome burns on a pck from 1149 batch....

I also noticed all my TY02 from Fuji and BB seem to have small spots on the very outer edge...some burns are garbage with these spots..very strange my previous SOny TY02 never had these, nor Verbatim 16x MIT MCC004

Are the GQ's by Fry's any good?. They are on sale like every other week, but the price is almost always too good to be true.

ouch that really hurts.. where did you get them? maybe they were damaged in shipping or something, but TYG02's are only technically rated up to 12x... hmmm...

thanks for the info, should i update the thread? do you consider the Imations to be "hot"?
yeah, i was tired and hasty in the linking, it was because i got them from storeads and those are done by zipcode...

I was just adding additional information that I thought might be helpful. Do with it what you will. I think the Imations at Target are a deal for someone near Target and certainly as good a brand as Nexxtech, FMI and Khypermedia.

Thanks for the compilation.

i picked up a few 50 and 25pks of the Sony x8 +R earlier this year. All the +R i bought where MIJ, and they where all TYs. I haven not had a single problem with these discs.
I have been burning them at x12 with and extremely low PI/PO error rate.

Im going to have to swing by my local Bestbuy or staples and pick up a few more cake boxes of the Sonys MIJ +Rs.

I picked up 4 50 packs of Sony 8X +R's from Best Buy. They were TY's and burned 12X in my 12X Optorite burner. :)

I never get a coaster with the DVD+R or -R, but the few times I checked disc quality with Kprobe or Nero DVD Speed showed slightly more errors than name-brand media. Can't remember any numbers off the top of my head.

The DVD+RW media I bought from them was pretty crappy.
