A friend of mine bought a X1800XT from CompUSA last night, for $500+tax. ATi has a $50 MIR rebate right now. He called ATi, and they said it was usuable from anywhere, not just online where he saw it.

Card: http://www.compusa.com/products/product...duct_code=335811&pfp=search&tabtype=rb

Rebate:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=326825

So he paid $500+tax last night, and will be getting a $50 rebate... sometime. Pretty good deal, for a BBATi retail card. Im interested in seeing on for myself finally. :)

And with a $50 rebate from ATi, we can pretty well assume theX1900 is close to release.

Either that, or supply and demand is setting the price. You don't see rebates on 512GTXs with the G71 on the horizon.

Hahahah... that's a JOKE right? You don't see 512 GTXs period.

Maybe thats because G71 is not on the Horizon.

edit after a quick look at Newegg prices on the X1800XT, 7800GTX 256/512, ATi is just probably trying to get more in-line with the price/performance vs competitor offerings. $100-$150 more for the X1800XT over the 7800GTX 256mb is just not worth it.

As far as the G71 "not being on the horizon" Killrose, when will we be able to buy one? I assume you have a launch date, because you'd NEVER post FUD you pulled out of your ass, right? ;)

Why aren't you drunk Rollo? It's almost the first, you should get bourbon'd up at least 3 days ahead of time! ;)

How would you know anything about my understandings about Economics? And I did edit my post after investigating further. Since I have no affiliation with AEC or whatever, I do not have a firm launch date. Someone like you however, might have a better idea, and would be a better candidate for pulling something out of their ass.

Oh, and I forgot.... :) :) :)
All better now?

The X1800XT was definitely ATIs strangest launch to date:
Five months late, way overpriced at first and scarce at first, now a pretty good deal on the eve of being phased out. (a whole two months later!)

What you don't understand is that if there is no supply, it doesn't matter if they have $300 mail in rebates or not.

I think someone doesn't understand supply and demand very well. Look at peak oil production studies. Once we hit peak production, oil will very quickly begin shooting through the roof because production cannot match consumption. Same goes for the 512MB GTXs. And AIBs and e-tailers both know there's a small percentage of the rabid who'll pay exorbitant prices to lay hands on their favored company's new part (Intel, for example, has got to be selling those Netburst Extreme Editions to someone).

Dont listen to him. He is just trolling, and showing his ignorance as usual. The XT was not over prices, it had the same MSRP as the GTX. It was $100 under MSRP within a month. Nor was it scarce. Notice how the vaporware 512MB GTX edition wasnt mentioned by him.

Also he never mentioned that the X1800 XT is generally faster than the 7800 GTX including in many OpenGL titles like Doom 3 and Quake 4.

Hmmmm.

Oil isn't a very good analogy when discussing the supply/demand pricing of durable goods, is it, John?

Not like there are any comparable goods like there are with video cards, right John? Or do you think there's some possibility we'll all just shift to riding horses and bikes?

Ackmed, you seem to like calling people "ignorant".

Would you please list the colleges you've attended, and degrees earned?

I'm thinking you must be quite a scholar given the number of times I've seen you put down other member's intelligence?

Nobody would really have the balls to cast stones about intellect if they hadn't proved their own in the real world, would they?

This is your chance to brag ol' buddy.

Anyone ever notice how Rollo appears in every positive ATi thread to threadcrap, & how he always has "new news" on how ATi's perfomance in this or that sucks?

Ah wait...we all know that.

So why feed the troll cookies?
Is there some ignore user feature here that i don't know about? It'd be nice to block out the FUD :)

Good deal on that X1800XT...certainly a better deal than the 7800GTX 256 MB anyway ;)

i believe we [now] have proof enough that colleges and degrees do not equal sense nor intellegence. ;)

. . . and "real-world experience" cannot prepare one for this surreal world of HW's P&N - Video where some snobs judge other people's rigs 'pathetic' by their choice of video card.

I like how you ignored the on topic part of his post that contained solid points. Wasn't it you, who was recently stomping his lil feet about people not staying on topic in your VTF thread??? I wouldn't call you ignorant but definitely a hypocrite any day of the week.

On topic, the x1800xt is following the same price path as 7800GTX 256. What's so difficult to understand about this?

Anyone wanting to discuss economics should realize that the 7800GTX 512 cannot be directly compared to the x1800xt due to it's limited production, similar to the x800xt pe a year ago. While the x800pro's fell in price and even the x800xt later, the x800xt pe never moved due to very little quantity. Just because they're all video cards, doesn't mean you can compare them directly when debating supply and demand. Availability is a major factor but feel free to ignore that whole point.
