Retail Athlon II heatsink for a Phenom II?

I have a Phenom II X3, and I was wondering if I can use a heatsink from a retail AMD Athlon II X2 (Regor) package to cool this CPU. Does AMD put the same heatsinks in their Athlon II and Phenom II retail packages? It looks like CPU measures about 38mm x 38mm, but the base of this heatsink seems a bit small because it measures only about 30mm x 30mm. It's been a while since I've built a computer, but the base of the heatsink should cover the entire (or nearly the entire) surface of the CPU, right?
