If anyone is in the market for a P4, these would be a good deal. They should be able to overclock fairly well.

Strange. The last time I checked, Northwood was only at 2.0 and 2.2 Ghz. Not 1.6 and 1.8. All the Northwoods so far have the "A" designation in there discription.

Well Snooper your wrong because intels cpu list on their website has the 1.6A and 1.8A versions listed. Xbitlabs carried the story that intel is officially releasing these as well. Im linkless right now since I just formatted :frown: These are infact northwood processors.

They are indeed for one thing take a look at the cache size of these processors. I am actually about to order either a 1.8 or a 2.0 Ghz processor depending on the prices as of Monday morning.

As per Intel's P4 sSpec info etal, 1.6A, 1.8A, 2A, and 2.2 are 512k L2 Cache and 0.13 micron. All others are 256k Cache and 0.18 micron.

If I get a P4 instead of an AMD XP, it'll have to be a Northwood. Have to decide on a motherboard too. And a case or just replace the ps. I could get a retail AMD XP 1900 with Soyo SY-K7V Dragon+ for $329 at Fry's or a retail 1.6A Intel with Soyo SY-P4S Dragon Ultra for $312. Any recommendations on these or others?

Say there is a price drop on Monday.
Would it be better to get P4 2.0 (willamette) or P4 1.8a (nothwood) ?
I assume P4 1.8a would be easily oc to 2.0 without special cooling.

Well, this isn't good - Googlegear's prices for the retail boxed Northwood went up not down:

P4 1.6A = $158
P4 1.8A = $216

Wasn't Intel dropping their prices? Darn, I may have to go to Fry's to see if they any of those boxed AMD XP 1900+ / Soyo Dragons left for $329...
