I have a 1.5 year old Dell Inspiron 9300 lappy with a Samsung hard drive. Windows wouldn't boot a few weeks ago because of an "Unmountable Boot Volume" warning. I tried a bunch of things, but eventually an old WinXP full install disk got it up and running after a CHKDSK.

So, should I look into getting a new drive, or should I be alright with this current one? If I need a new one, what's the easiest way to get the data from the old to the new?

If you are just transferring videos/music/etc, then borrow a friends external and just put it on that and then transfer it back to the new hard drive.

Most of the time the problem that chkdsk repairs has to do with the file system and is not a physical hard drive problem.
