In trying to get out of the hellhole I call my current job, I've run across the following dilemma: how do you list a previous job/position on your resume for a company that no longer exists?

For example, I was a Domain Tech at an ISP in Phoenix, but they were bought out by another company and had their name changed (and promptly laid off all staff not related to the new company). Pretty much all the old contact information is no longer correct, and they've moved out of state.

I'm wondering if I should try to track down the current contact information (including their new name) or if I should list the original name and contact information with the company and try to explain it to the interviewer.

Depending on the length of time that you worked there, (> 3 months) I would just put a little note beside the company name stating (closed) .

Else just leave them off the resume, unless there was something special that you did that you wish credit for.

I never provide contact info on a resume. Just employer name and city.

The reason I want to list this employer is that it was a job where I wasn't just a phone monkey, and actually got to do more than desktop support.

In my resume, I've listed them like this:

Job Title, Dates worked
Company Name, City, ST

Another thought I had is when I'm filling out the endless applications. I'm pretty sure that I can put a note in there to explain that the company no longer exists/exists elsewhere and hope that I'll get to the point where I can explain that.

List the original company name and but try to find the latest contact information.

What's so bad about the current job?

The pay is pretty good for desktop support ($15/hr), but they're moving our jobs to the other end of the valley, so I'll be adding about 90 miles (round trip) a day for my commute. When I asked about telecommuting, working 4 10's, or adjusting shifts so that we can carpool, we were basically laughed at.

There's also concerns in our callcenter with our jobs moving overseas. My company (Safeway) has already moved 99% of the software development/support jobs to Manila, and a duplicate callcenter has already been setup to start taking a majority of our calls.

Finally, I work really nasty hours. They don't offer "normal" hours here, instead making people work either extremely early (like 4am for me) or late in the afternoon.

I know, working in a callcenter means that you have to put up with alot of crap, but I've finally decided that working here no longer provides any real benefit (besides a paycheck) and that it's time to move on.
