A lot of people tell me you should always put a Summary of Qualifications instead of an Objective on a resume but personally I think it depends on how much experience a person has. If he is a fresh new college student and he knows what he wants to do but isn't qualified or does not have the necessary experience, then an objective is better. If someone has a lot of experience, he should summarize his qualifications instead of writing an objective. What do you think is better on a resume?

If I'm looking at resumes with intent to interview, I want to see an objective. I want to know what you, as a potential employee, want to do. I'd also like to see a summary of what skills you have, followed by work experience. Education is something I care the least about, but I will look at it.

To clarify, I do network engineering and troubleshooting. Other industries may have different priorities.

My business communications professor explained it like this - what is everyone applying's objective REALLY? To get the job they're applying for...hence a major qualifying statement was preferred.

As a hiring manager in today's world, I assume the position is seen as a stepping stone to the NEXT position. Since I assume the person is not looking for a job to retire from I want the person most qualified. Seeing a summary helps me weed out the chaff quickly. Also, I have almost never seen an objective that was not written using to many words out of a thesaurus.
