I'm in the process of revising my resume, and I do have a question... What is the best way to represent returning to a company several years after initially leaving? The position was similar, but would it warrant to separate entries on a resume?

Chronologically, it looks a bit strange currently like:

Current job
Previous Job #1 - Dates: x to y
Previous Job #2 - Dates: Before Job #1, After Job #1
Etc...

But at the same rate, I'm not certain how well it would go over as:

Current job
Previous Job #2 - Dates: After Job #1
Previous Job #1 - Dates: x to y
Previous Job #2 - Dates: Before Job #1
Etc.

Suggestions? I currently have it as the former example, and on several interviews I've had to point out the two separate date ranges to prospective employers, or occasionally they would be reading through as they asked "so what did you do from.. oh I see you went back to Job #2...". It sort of feels like a bit of a stumbling block in the process.

Two seperate dates. You can place them on the same line if within the same organization.

If different organizations within the same company, then treat tham as seperate company entries.

Agreed - or if the position was different, treat them as seperate entries because your roles and duties changed.
