Resume question

I understand it's probably best to keep the resume @ 1 page.

What about the references ?

Would you usually keep a 2nd page with references, or give them references only if requested ?

doesn't matter if the reference page is 1 or 2 pages

so dont include the reference page ?

only give them if they request it ?

yes
one page resume (in special cases 2 pages can be ok)

seperate references page that you have in your folio and only give them when they ask for it

yup. ONly give references upon request. That said multiple page resumes are becoming more and more common. As long as you have the experience to support it, 2 pages is fine.

Good deal.. thanks for the advice.

The one page limit is for highschool/college students who have nothing of value to put on a resume. No work experience, no buisness success, few publications, few patents, no real-life experience, etc. So the highschool/college students often end up putting hobbies, they list every computer program they've ever seen, include the sports they played, or they list ever class they've ever taken. Guess what: if your degree is computer science, it is assumed you know how to use Microsoft Word and it is assumed you have an interest in computers, it is assumed you've taken computer related classes, and it is well known that you've never played sports. Thus, don't put it there. The 1 page limit is a guideline ONLY to eliminate this useless clutter.

But, once you have real experience, real results, etc. then go ahead and use as many pages as needed. At this point in a person's carreer, the 1 page limit is no longer needed to eliminate useless MYSPACE clutter.

References upon request (but don't say, "References available upon request" in your actual resume...).

The "one page" thing is a MYTH if you're submitting it directly. Only lazy headhunters want exactly one page.
