Would you put research experience along w/ work experience or should it go in its own section?

Mine has research projects in one section and work experience in another.

depends on the job you are applying for... sometimes it'll look better one way, sometimes it'll look better the other

Probably good to have at least a couple variations.

Volunteer work under one, work experience under another, research under another. I'm assuming you're pre-med, and that's what I did...ended up in Vandy's med school.

Can't argue with results :)

I agree, separate sections; they're separate types of activities, and having different section titles helps to draw some attention to it.

Lol, my top choice right now is University of Washington Med since I'm a resident of WA. Although staying at Duke is an attractive option as well.

You get into med school, I'll be proud. What specialty, if any, are you looking at right now?

I keep research in with the rest and it's served me well thus far.
To clarify, I include mine in the work experience section under whatever position I held at the time (TA, GA, and so on). Good enough to get me into a PhD program. :p I think location is somewhat less important than content, with the caveat that it's very easy to follow and extract the necessary information quickly.

I'm interested in cardiology, possibly surgery but my knowledge is fairly limited. I'm assuming I'll be able to make a much more informed decision once i get into med school. Once thing I'm pretty sure is that ill be sticking with the upper body. Not really interested in proctology or urology ;)

Well then, for the next few years I'll persuade you into the Nephrology field. ;)

EDIT: You don't want to be a scalpel jock.

What made you get into that? Were you interested in this before med school?

Yea, I had some family history lead me into it. But, I love chem, and the fact that you check up on the rest of the doc's orders makes me feel important ;). It's a fun field, but it's not for everyone. Still, I'll try to guide you toward it. :)

Psh...fvck radiology. Nephrology you have the surgery part to place the catheters (unless you're able to get the anesthesiologists to place it), the chem knowledge to diagnose electrolyte imblances, the acuteness to read the angiograms and to help diabetes patients (very prevelant in today's world). Radiology is for the kids who don't want to leave undergrad. ;) ESRD is never going to leave, and the day by day interaction with those patients is wonderful. It makes you feel like you're making a difference. I might be a bit biased, but I'm still sticking with my story. I'm starting my first year of med this fall, but I've been working with a nephrologist for ~6 months. 7am every Tuesday and Thursday I'm in the dialysis center. Those people are awesome.
