Was browsing for job postings and came across one that said.

"Any documents submitted not in PDF will be a) mocked then b) deleted."

When you are sending your resume to companies/recruiters, what format do you normally send them when there's no specific request for one?

I send a .pdf, but if it's requested in word I send word. However, the only reason I send a pdf is because my former boss used to take word resumes and make little graphic penises in them, like 8===>

.pdf generally. My resume was written in OO.

You don't want to work for a company that would ignore your application over something stupid like "Oh, they gave me a PDF!!!"

PDF.

Your resume should not be in such an easily editable format as a Word file. PS/PDF is also much more professional.

In the past I have provided them in Word format, which I believe is commonly accepted. If I was unsure I would just send both.

I send pdf unless specifically requested for word. There is no reason to not have a pdf version...

it's easy to save in pdf with Bullzip PDF

The Bullzip PDF Printer works as a Microsoft Windows printer and allows you to write PDF documents from virtually any Microsoft Windows application.

Why would anyone need a word copy of your resume?

PDF so you know the formatting won't get screwed up. More professional.

I recall reading that some companies use programs to search resumes for information. They do not work, or do not work as well, on pdfs.

I prefer to use PDF, since newer documents are .DOCX and sometimes when you downconvert the file to a .DOC format it doesn't show up quite like how you may have intended it. PDF means that you know it will open and look exactly how you want it to look, and this is especially true cross-platform (e.g. creating a document in Word on a Mac).
