So I'm a sysadmin by trade but I also program on the side. When I'm home I dabble with the LAMP stack and I have experience setting up mysql, nginx and all those other tools that many web companies are accustomed to. The problem is I don't get to "play" with these tools at my current job, hence they don't go on my resume.

When interviewing for a sysadmin job that requires experience with said tools, how do I go about showing employers that I have do experience, just not formal? If given a chance, I'm sure I can set up master/slave mysql and I can learn along the way if given the opportunity.

I would put that experience on my resume.

Just be sure that you know any topics backwards and forwards - be very prepared for a grilling on anything you put on your resume during and interview.

Have a section on your resume for Skills:
List items that you are good at under there.

As Drako stated, anything not directly listed under your work experience can/will be fair game to some type of evaluation by an interviewer to see if those items are fluff or substance value.

You can create a separate section in your resume to highlight these skills. but what Drako said, be prepared, very prepared.
