Alright guys, just thought i'd share this with you. I just got my Celeron II 1GHz cD0 stepping chip in today to replace my
celeron 600@900.
I paid $85 for this chip through pricewatch and it's a great chip. I haven't had a chance to see how far i can thoroughly push this
chip, but it's very overclockable.
The default voltage for these chips is 1.75v. Right now I've got the following:

ABit BE6-II w/newest bios
Celeron 1GHz @ 1.2GHz (10x120) at 1.80v :)
Galaxy Copper Heatsink/Fan ($16 at Webuildpcs.com)
Generic Slotket

I'm gonna run some 3dmark2001 scores to see how improves my gaming performance.

Not much (gaming performance, that is).

The bottleneck of choice for games is the GFX-card, or - more to the point - the memory bandwidth / lack thereof at the moment.

Also, in 3DMARK2001, you tend to get +1.5K points for a GeForce 3, whereas you get ~100 points for 100 additional MHz. It's a graphics card benchmark. So is gaming :).

Thought I'd clear things up a little - hope this helps.

Not that the choice of Celeron II is a bad one, btw ... :)

Yeah, I always kind of take any "Celerons suck for gaming" comments I read with a grain of salt since people around here tend to be exponentially more finicky than 99% of the users I've met. Of course, I'm biased since I own several Celerons, but I've never felt limited by these processors. As you've said, nearly every game out there is limited by the video card assuming your processor is half-way competent. I realize they always include the 640x480 benchmarks to show what it would be like if the video cards were not bottlenecks. But I don't know anybody with a powerful system that actually plays at that low of a resolution. And by the time video cards become available that won't bottleneck these processors I'll be running a CPU that's 2 or 3 times faster anyway. The last thing I'll want to do then is shove it into an 'old and slow' system ;)

Good luck with the 1Gig Celery. I just checked w/UPS and my 900 is now sitting on my doorstep waiting for me to get home :D
