I thought this was pretty interesting.
90,000 square foot cable vault. That is just mind boggling. But makes sense given the size of NY. I would hate to have the job of having to replace/repair all that. From the looks of it they're just going to add more fiber though, so that's good news for customers who are on the bad cable pairs, they might get fiber.
We've had cables get water in them at work and a single one of those cables is something like 900 pairs, and it can take a day or two to resplice all that. We have two air dryers in our CO and our smaller COs have a single one. Those tend to sit in a room, more or less out of sight out of mind, but are extremely important. Even without a flood, if pressure is not maintained in the lines if there's any cracks anywhere water starts getting in, and that's bad.
