I helped a friend upgrade from ME to XP and everything was perfect until the Windows Update.
At the restart the system kept restarting and at boot and I noticed a quick XP blue screen but it was far to fast to reed anything. I tried doing a reinstall to repair the install but the repair option was not available and a new install was made. So there are two coppies of the settings and derectories one old and one new.
I was wondering if anybody knows if there is a way to restore the old install using the new one or at least find the old registry and program date so I could make the current system work with all the already installed software.
If there is some other program outside widnows that can do a partial repair, please tell me as the alternative would be a reinstall of all software.
Also since all the folders from the old windows are still tehere, is there a way to reomve them when I am done and then rename the new folders the same as the old instead of the .windows names with the new folders.
Please help in any way you can.
Thank You
