Restoring Asus K55a

Trying to figure out how to do a factory reset on this Asus with win 8. Tried hitting the f9 key but it brings up a win8 troubleshooting menu instead of the Asus dialogue window I was expecting.

Help?

I did check the hard drive in the admin view and it has os, recovery, restoration, and data partitions on it.

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for. Had me worried when I wasn't finding mine to behave like everything else I came across discussed.

Reset is in progress. Minor followup if anyone can answer:

I've seen some threads where people who upgraded to 8.1 are having difficulty doing a restore. Should I not install 8.1 or is there something to do during the upgrade to not run into this problem if you must do a reset again?

it should be fine if you do the update to 8.1 through windows update.

As long as asus' hidden partition isn't removed/changed, there shouldn't be any problems.
The first few google searches I looked at had to do with updating through windows store.

edit: hmm dunno seeing some weird stuff about it after more searching about 8.1 not recognizing 8.0 recovery partitions...

Might be a bit late, but I wanted to chime in on this last point.

Don't upgrade to 8.1, it is a problem. I know a few people with these units and they crapped up after 8.1 and cannot be restored. At least not without shipping the system to Asus for refurbishing.
