I recently got a nasty scuff on my beloved CRT. It is definitely not a scratch, it seems that just something was rubbed off the surface. The anti-glare coating, I assume. Is there any way to fix this? Windex didn't seem to help =P

The Windex most likely made it worse.

From what I've heard in the past, restoring the anti-glare coating isn't really something you can do yourself. You might be able to find a tv/monitor repair shop or glass shop that could do it but it probably wouldn't look as good as the original, probably cost a lot of money too.

yeah leave it alone. Cleaning solutions can destroy the anti-glare coating. Just take a soft cloth to the area and buff it a bit until you can't notice it too much. Do NOT use cleaners.

dont use anything with alcohol or ammonia on anti glare monitors.

yoiu can send it to your manufacturer to recoat it, but it costs prohibitive. i think its around $150 or so.

antiglare can not be redone. In factory the tube is spun at high speed while a few drops of coating is applied and it spreads across glass. i use a bit of clean tap water on a soft 100%cotton t shirt to clean. If you have a large area of the antiglare that has come off then you may as well continue using windex untill the rest is eventually taken off and you will be left with shiny clear glass.

Well that sucks.

On the other hand, i've been cleaning my monitor (and past monitors) with windex for years and have never had a problem.
Ah well.

Thanks.

Why not just buy a anti-glare screen? Much easier than trying to restore it on the monitor.
