Restoring an iPod Classic

Found a 5th generation iPod Classic in a rental car one day. Been sitting at the bottom of the lost & found at work for months. Nobody came back to claim it, so it's mine now. I can see why they didn't want it. It was stuck in a reboot loop.

So, got it working by putting it into diagnostic mode. Boots up and works just fine. I can navigate the menus, play with the settings. So the logic board and battery are good. Hard drive is pooched though. Won't format, won't take data. It tries, gets stuck, then the click of death sits in. I can hear the drive spin up and then click off. Gets stuck in a loop doing that.

So I did some hunting online. Found a drive for about $35. Genuine Toshiba from a local store. Not bad considering what most 1.8" drives are going for. Got some cheap pry tools too. I'm going to pop it open and preform surgery on it. Doesn't look too complicated according to iFixit. Anybody else done this before?

I replaced the battery in mine a few years back, which was close enough. Pretty painless.
